Why Locals Love Cervecería El Diario

Cervecería El Diario is a charming tapas bar and restaurant nestled in the heart of Madrid’s vibrant Centro district. Offering an authentic taste of Spanish cuisine with a focus on traditional tapas and hearty dishes, this intimate spot captures the true essence of local dining. The kitchen shines with standout plates like their famously exquisite chicken paella, which diners rave about for its perfect balance of flavors and tender texture—truly a must-try that invites sharing among friends or a small group.

Another culinary gem is the pesto burrata, celebrated by patrons as a dish worth returning for on its own. Creamy burrata melds beautifully with fresh, aromatic pesto, creating a refreshing contrast that tantalizes the palate. Every bite here resonates with genuine Spanish spirit and culinary artistry.

The atmosphere at Cervecería El Diario is warm and convivial. Guests often find themselves drawn into engaging conversations with both the staff and fellow patrons, enhancing the sense of connection this place fosters.

From the hearty, soulful flavors of the paella to the delightful surprises of free olives served alongside your meal—even converting olive skeptics—Cervecería El Diario offers a genuine culinary experience steeped in tradition and vibrant social energy. For those seeking an unpretentious yet memorable dining outing in Madrid, this spot is a treasured find.

Probably the best paella I have ever had, got the chicken one and I would 10/10 recommend, best to share with one other person or two if you get sides. And if you are visiting most definitely try the pesto burrata, it is a reason to go back on its own. The staff were also super friendly and accommodating and the space is pretty small and intimate, you’re quite close to other tables but in a friendly, non intrusive way. Overall the place left me craving another visit

My wife and I arrived at our hotel in Madrid around 8:30, unpacked, and then went looking for dinner. We found this beer and tapas bar that looked to be full of locals just a couple blocks away. We were warmly greeted and asked to sit at the bar instead of the dining room because it was more cozy. We ended up getting the best bartenders/waiters who were originally from Ecuador and Uruguay. The food was excellent. I especially enjoyed my Catalonian soup and bowl of mussels. My wife couldn't believe the vegetarian lasagna was as good as it was. Definitely not an overpriced place, and provides a nice homey feel.

The staff are all friendly. The price is acceptable. A good point is staff are friendly. You can enjoy Rioja wine from €3、4. The atmosphere is what I think of Spanish bar.

This is what Spain in all about, you step into this unique place where the beer flows, bellies are filled. Laughter to your right, discussions to your left. Step out for a quick cigarette and start making conversation with the locals. Stumble into bed and wake up thinking it was a dream, it makes you want to go back. The food is good, the service is one of a kind quick, messy but purely authentic and friendly. They are not there just there for their job but this is a career and they do it well.

A nice selection, and friendly staff. The space is wonderful, and food is nice. Good Wifi is available. I did receive tuna empanada rather than beef, and the soup was mostly broth. The flavor was good though, and the free olives were delicious (a huge compliment, as a olive hater).

My husband and I went here 3 years ago, and we made it a point to find it again this trip. It seems now more people have discovered it. The atmosphere is fun with its newspapers on the ceiling and literary greats with quotes on the walls. They also have the original door to the location. The food ( what we in the United States call elevated bar fare) was as delicious as we remembered it. Totally recommend and look forward to going back again, hopefully sooner than 3 years.

If you want an authentic local barrio experience full of life, olives, and drinks, this place is a must-visit! We enjoyed 2 glasses of red wine and 2 snacks, both served with chips and olives. The staff is incredibly friendly, and the lively atmosphere makes it a fun spot to soak in the neighborhood vibe. While it could be cleaner, the overall experience is highly enjoyable—I definitely recommend it!
